Atlanta Ford Super Duty Roof Crush Lawyers

Are You in Need of an Atlanta Ford Super Duty Roof Crush Attorney?

Ford Super Duty trucks are some of the most popular and widely used vehicles in the United States. Marketed for their strength and reliability, these trucks are driven by workers, families, and small business owners who trust they’ll be protected in the event of a crash. But when a Ford Super Duty truck rolls over, that trust can be destroyed.

For years, Ford Super Duty trucks have been the subject of lawsuits and verdicts involving catastrophic roof crush failures. In rollover accidents, instead of the roof protecting occupants, it collapses inward, causing devastating injuries or death.

At Butler Prather LLP, we’ve taken these cases to trial and won. In 2022, we secured a $1.7 billion verdict against Ford in a roof crush case. In 2025, we obtained a record-breaking $2.5 billion verdict in another Super Duty roof crush trial. We are national leaders in this type of litigation and are currently representing individuals and families across the country.

A Roof Should Protect You

If a Ford Super Duty roof crush caused serious injury or death, contact Butler Prather LLP at (706) 322-1990 to learn more today.

Why You Should See an Atlanta Personal Injury Lawyer Right Away

Ford and other large auto manufacturers move quickly to protect themselves after a crash. Their legal teams begin preparing their defense the moment a serious accident is reported. You need someone on your side doing the same thing right away.

Here’s why contacting an attorney immediately is critical:

  • Crash evidence can disappear quickly. Damaged vehicles are repaired, sold, or destroyed unless preserved.
  • Key records may be lost. Black box data, phone records, and service histories must be requested early.
  • Witnesses are harder to locate over time. Memories fade and people move.
  • Ford has access to expert resources and so should you.
  • The statute of limitations is running. Delaying too long can jeopardize your right to file a claim.

At Butler Prather LLP, we begin investigations immediately. We retain crash reconstructionists, engineering experts, and automotive design specialists to secure and examine the evidence before it's gone.

Do You Have a Legitimate Case?

You may have a valid roof crush claim against Ford if:

  • The vehicle involved was a Ford Super Duty truck (typically F-250, F-350, or F-450)
  • The accident involved a rollover crash
  • The truck’s roof collapsed or intruded inward more than safety standards allow
  • Serious injury or death occurred as a result of the roof failure

Ford has faced repeated claims that it failed to properly design and reinforce the roofs of its Super Duty trucks, despite being aware of rollover risks. If the roof caved in, intruded into the occupant space, or failed to maintain structural integrity during a crash, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.

It’s possible that you have a valid claim even if another driver caused the crash. Ford has a legal duty to build vehicles that protect occupants in foreseeable collisions, including rollovers.

Butler Prather LLP Wins $1.7 Billion Verdict Against Ford Motor Company

In April 2014, Melvin and Voncile Hill were involved in a rollover accident in their 2002 Ford Super Duty F-250 Crew Cab. The multiple rollovers caused the roof to collapse, killing both passengers.

Although the alleged cause of the accident was a separated tire, a complaint was filed against Ford Motor Company, contending that the Hill’s deaths were primarily due to the roof crush. This event would not have occurred had the roof been properly reinforced.

We represented the Hill’s children in this case against Ford Motor Company, arguing that Ford compromised the roof to cut production costs. In essence, they were fully aware that the roof would not withstand the weight of the vehicle.

On August 24, 2022, a jury in Gwinnett County Georgia returned a unanimous verdict against Ford Motor Company for the wrongful death of Melvin and Voncile Hill. Their children, Kim and Adam Hill, were awarded $24,030,500 for their pain and suffering, and the jury also awarded $1.7 billion in punitive damages. The jury apportioned 70 percent of the fault to Ford and 30 percent of the damages against Pep Boys, a tire distributor that mistakenly installed the wrong size, or "load range," tires of the Hills’ truck in 2010.

The Problem: Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty Trucks Have Light, Weak Roofs

Ford Super Duty pickup trucks such as the F-250 and F-350 have inherently weak roofs. Due to their higher center of gravity, trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are more prone to rolling over. To combat this, manufacturers have reduced weight from the roof and support pillars of these trucks. This not only lowers the center of gravity in these vehicles, but also minimizes the total weight to improve mileage.

Ford commonly reduces weight by hollowing out the vital support pillars that connect the roof to the cab. That weakens any protections to passengers to a dangerous level in the case of a rollover accident.

Manufacturers such as Ford commonly use the same cabs (bodies) in both of their light-duty and heavy-duty models in order to simplify production. These cabs are typically rated for lighter trucks in both safety and roof-crush rating. When the same cab is used in a significantly heavier heavy-duty truck, the same roof-crush safety ratings do not apply.

In our suit against Ford Motor Company, the manufacturer admitted that they were sued more than 170 times as a result of rollover accidents resulting in fatal roof-crushing incidents.

What's the Legal Process for Filing a Ford Super Duty Roof Crush Claim?

The legal process for a roof crush product liability case is complex, but our firm handles every aspect for you. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Free Case Evaluation: We listen to your story and evaluate whether your case qualifies for a roof crush lawsuit.
  2. Crash Scene & Vehicle Investigation: We take steps to preserve the vehicle, analyze crash data, and document damage.
  3. Expert Evaluation: We hire engineers and safety experts to analyze whether the roof structure failed under conditions it should have withstood.
  4. Filing the Lawsuit: If the evidence supports a claim, we file a lawsuit against Ford and any other liable parties.
  5. Discovery: We obtain Ford’s internal records, crash testing data, design memos, and corporate communications.
  6. Depositions: We question Ford engineers, safety executives, and decision-makers under oath.
  7. Negotiation or Trial: We are always ready to take the case to trial. That preparation often leads to better settlements. If Ford won’t offer justice, we go to court.

Our firm has already gone toe-to-toe with Ford in multiple roof crush trials and won. We know their arguments, their tactics, and their vulnerabilities.

What Is the Statute of Limitations in Georgia?

In Georgia, the statute of limitations for a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit is generally two years from the date of the incident or death. Every case is different and there are exceptions. That’s why we strongly encourage you to speak with a qualified attorney about your claim as soon as possible.

Proving Liability in a Defective Vehicle Lawsuit

Proving a roof crush case against Ford requires more than showing the roof collapsed. It must be shown that:

  • The roof design was defective, meaning it failed to meet accepted safety standards or protect occupants in a foreseeable crash.
  • The defect caused or worsened the injuries or death, even if the crash was survivable, the roof failure may have made it fatal.
  • A safer, feasible design existed. Ford had the means and technology to prevent the failure but chose not to use it.

To establish this, we dig into Ford's engineering decisions, crash test data, design memos, and more. We have already secured access to internal Ford documents in past cases that expose design flaws, ignored safety warnings, and cost-cutting choices.

Our legal team uses all available resources to recreate the crash, simulate the roof collapse, and prove that the fatal outcome was preventable.

And although Ford claims that they designed a stronger roof for their pickup trucks in 2004 and then again in 2006, many older Ford Super Duty trucks continue to be dangerously unsafe for their drivers, with no pushes for safety improvements in sight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Ford Super Duty roof crush case?

A Ford Super Duty roof crush case involves a rollover accident in which the roof of a Ford F-250, F-350, or similar model collapses inward during the crash, causing serious injury or death. These cases allege that Ford failed to design the roof to withstand foreseeable rollover forces, making the vehicle unreasonably dangerous.

Which Ford vehicles are affected by roof crush issues?

Most roof crush claims have involved Ford’s Super Duty trucks, such as the F-250 and F-350 models. These vehicles are often used in heavy-duty work environments and are at higher risk for rollover incidents. Multiple lawsuits have targeted design flaws in the roof structure of these models.

How do I know if I have a valid roof crush claim?

You may have a valid case if the crash involved a rollover and the roof of a Ford Super Duty truck collapsed or intruded into the occupant space, causing injury or death. An attorney can investigate the crash, inspect the vehicle, and consult with engineering experts to determine if a roof design defect was involved.

Does it matter if another driver caused the crash?

Not necessarily. Even if another vehicle caused the rollover, Ford may still be liable if the roof failed to provide reasonable protection. Auto manufacturers are required to design vehicles that protect occupants in foreseeable accidents, including rollovers.

What compensation can I recover in a roof crush case?

Compensation may include medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, permanent disability, and wrongful death damages if a loved one was killed. In some cases, punitive damages may also be awarded if the manufacturer acted with reckless disregard for safety.

How long do I have to file a roof crush lawsuit in Georgia?

Generally, Georgia law allows two years from the date of the injury or death to file a product liability or wrongful death lawsuit. However, this period may vary depending on specific factors in your case. Acting quickly is critical to preserving evidence and protecting your rights.

Has Butler Prather LLP successfully handled roof crush cases before?

Yes. Butler Prather LLP has secured two of the largest roof crush verdicts in history against Ford, $1.7 billion in 2022 and $2.5 billion in 2025. Our team has extensive experience litigating complex auto defect cases nationwide and holding manufacturers accountable.

What does it cost to hire Butler Prather LLP?

We work on a contingency fee basis. That means you pay nothing upfront and you owe us nothing unless we recover money for you. We also cover the costs of investigating and litigating the case, including hiring experts and conducting crash reconstruction.

What role do experts play in a roof crush case?

Engineering and crash safety experts are essential. They evaluate whether the roof met safety standards, whether a safer design was feasible, and whether the failure of the roof caused or worsened the injuries. Their findings are key to proving liability in court.

What should I do if I think I have a roof crush claim?

Preserve the vehicle, take photographs, and contact a qualified attorney right away. Avoid repairing or disposing of the vehicle until it can be thoroughly inspected. Call Butler Prather LLP at (706) 322-1990 for a free consultation. We can advise you on your next steps and begin investigating your claim immediately.
