Dangerous Conditions For Drivers

By Butler Prather LLP on June 15, 2016

A recent analysis of the 200 largest cities in the United States found that Atlanta was home to particularly dangerous conditions for drivers. The group NerdWallet used a number of factors, including car accidents, fatal car accident rates and vehicle-related crimes to produce a safety ranking. Atlanta had the 7th worst score in the country. The poor showing was driven in part by a double digit rate of deadly accidents per 100,000 residents and high rates of motor vehicle theft. Augusta, Georgia, also placed in the top 20, rating as the 19th most dangerous city in America for drivers.

Fatal Car Accidents

The largest single factor in determining which cities were unsafe was the rate of fatal accidents. The safest cities come in under four traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents. Atlanta saw 10.7 fatal accidents per 100,000 residents and Augusta saw 13.7. Both rates exceed the national average despite the fact that the majority of fatal accidents happen on rural roads, rather than urban centers like Atlanta.

Car Insurance

NerdWallet’s analysis focused on the affect of driver safety on auto insurance rates. Augusta and Atlanta were home to the two lowest auto insurance rates among the 20 most dangerous cities for drivers. Car insurance plays an important role in compensating the victims of negligent drivers. While lower premiums are good news for drivers, victims of car accidents need to be wary about dealing with insurance companies. It is vital to speak to an experienced auto accident attorney before making any written statements or reaching an agreement with the insurance adjuster.

I was in a complex premises liability case involving a multinational corporations. Mr. Butler & his associates were always three steps ahead of these defendants. When they say they are "exceptional trial lawyers," this is not just a slogan but it is a way of life.”
